History

The first Power in Action event took place in 1967. Organised by the Suffolk Farm Machinery Club, the event featured tractors and implements worth £60,000. Held on 80 acres at Otley, visitors got to see 35 tractors at work.

The event was a natural step for the Suffolk Farm Machinery Club, which had been established in 1960 as the East Suffolk Farm Machinery Club. Within a year it had started holding machinery demonstrations, the first being a crop sprayer event held at the Suffolk Showground.

Otley was the home of Power in Action until a change in farming policy by the hosts meant that the 2005 event was the last to be held on that site. It was feared that the loss of the Otley venue would also spell the end of the event, but with the support of long-time sponsor – and now joint organiser – Farmers Guide, the Suffolk Farm Machinery Club was able to identify a new venue.

The 2007 Power in Action, which marked the 40th anniversary of the event, was held at Melford Park Farm, Alpheton, Suffolk, on Wednesday, September 5, 2007. It proved a resounding success and meant the event had entered a new phase its history – one we hope will last at least another 40 years.
